The Learning Equation: Informational bulletins
Business need
The Learning Equation Math (TLE Math) was the first math software to constitute a complete approved course at each grade level. And it was the first software proven to improve student performance. These two characteristics have huge implications for classroom teachers and schools. As such, a range of specific issues and questions repeatedly arose, requiring detailed explanations.
Clearly, more detailed product and implementation information was needed, but TLE was concerned about overwhelming customers with a large brochure or kit containing too much information.
Alantext solution
I wrote a series of TLE Math Bulletins, each discussing a specific issue. These are used to address concerns and queries with the appropriate one or two Bulletins given to the customer in a presentation or sales call.
The Bulletins have been successful: many schools and boards of education request multiple copies to distribute or reproduce in their own reports and newsletters.
Each bulletin is on a single sheet. The topics covered are:
- TLE Math in a Nutshell. Overview of TLE elements, lesson pedagogy, courseware features, independent testing.
- The Changing Classroom. Discusses changes that occur in the learning environment, from teacher's perspective and student's perspective, with some relevant quotes.
- Talking About TLE Math Courseware. Quotes/endorsements from teachers and others about TLE Math.
- TLE Math Teacher Training. Description and agenda of workshops.
- System Requirements. For Windows, Mac, network, and summary of installation instructions.
- Independent Testing of TLE Math. Summary of the University of Alberta study that proved students using TLE Math perform better.
- Parent Letter. Letter from TLE to parents to inform them of the use of TLE Math in their school, as well as the independent test results. This was distributed by the user schools to parents.
- Stock Article for principals' newsletters. Upon request, this was supplied in electronic form to principals of user schools, for inclusion in their school newsletters to parents. Discusses the background and use of TLE Math in their school, as well as the independent test results.
